Description: Students will combine theory with practice in this project-based course on the methodologies, skills, and economics of entrepreneurship.

This course is taught and organized in a way that allows students to learn and practice each stage of the startup process, including:

- Theories of innovation
- Macroeconomics of the new economy
- Creative ideation
- product-market fit/customer -
- validation
- Iterative prototyping
- Operations and logistics
- Marketing
- Effective decision-making
- Fundraising
- Microeconomics of pricing/valuations

Students will be assigned regular readings from books like How Google Works by Eric Schmidt and Jonathan Rosenberg, Business Model Canvas by Alexander Osterwalder and Yves Pigneur, and Sprint by Braden Kowitz and Jake Knapp and online texts.

Students will turn theory into action by launching and developing their own companies throughout the course. In addition, students will interview a local CEO, engage in project-based learning with startup companies in Portland, and develop a personal and professional online presence that creates opportunities for them in the future. Students will learn and use the design thinking methodology, lean startup processes, and the Business Model Canvas. Collaboration, effective communication, strategic thinking, creative problem-solving, initiative, and conflict resolution, among other soft-skills, will be emphasized throughout the course.

At the end of the semester, students will engage in due diligence sessions with actual investors and will pitch their projects to parents and community members associated with the MiT School.
